Israel – Gaza

Israel is region where the spiritual, religious, and nation identity of the Jewish people was formed.

After the Holocaust there was sympathy from western nations for the Jewish people. At that time Palestine was under the control of Britain, who where supportive of the cause[1]. The issue was brought to the, then newly created, United Nations who devised a partitioning plan. The plan divided the region into three Jewish sections, four Arabian sections, and Jerusalem (which would be administered by the United Nations)[1].

In 1948 the partitioning plan was taken into effect with the declaration of independence of Israel[2]. The day after Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, and Lebanon went to war with Israel, leading to what we know know as 1948 Arab-Israeli War[1] [3]. Israel was victorious[1], and Egypt was given control over the Gaza Strip in the process[3] – which was apart of the Arabian section of the partitioning plan.
