Tangent Lines


A tangent line is one which touches a curve and maintains the same direction as that curve at the point of contact[1]. The word comes from the Latin word tangens, which means touching[1].

For a circle this would be the point that intersects with the shape, but only once. Although, for more complex curves this becomes an inadequate definition[1].
